ST. PETERSBURG —
Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in St. Petersburg.
According to police, the crash happened near 54th Avenue and 22nd Street South just before 6 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the body of a 68-year-old man in the street and no vehicle at the scene. Authorities said the person’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Officials have not released the identity of the victim. The eastbound lanes of 54th Avenue South, going east from 22nd Street South, will be blocked for an extended period of time during the investigation. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
