Troopers: Drunk man crashes car into semi, walks away from scene
A Tampa man is facing multiple charges after officials said he crashed his car into a tractor trailer, then was found walking a short distance from the scene of the crash.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested 29-year-old Anthony Davis after deputies say they found him walking west on State Road 674 at about 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Troopers said that was not far from where Davis crashed his car into the side of a tractor-trailer after he failed to stop at a red light. His car became lodged under the trailer that was being towed by the semi.
The semi driver was not hurt.
According to his arrest report, Davis told investigators he was trying to drive home from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino when the accident happened. He said “I’m drunk” after troopers asked him to perform a field sobriety test, the report said.
Eventually, Davis submitted to a breath test, which registered his blood alcohol level at 0.148, almost twice the legal limit.
Davis was taken into custody on charges of leaving the scene of the crash involving damage, DUI and driving with a suspended license.
The crash is under investigation.
