LAND O’ LAKES —
The Brooksville man accused of trying to suffocate and kidnap a woman in Hudson has been taken into custody.
Jason Cheladyn, 44, is facing one felony count of false imprisonment and one misdemeanor count of battery.
According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, the 33-year-old victim was at her home when one of her roommates was bitten by their family pet.
The woman called Cheladyn, who was a friend, and asked if he could take her roommate to the hospital. However, the roommate was able to get to a local hospital for treatment before Cheladyn could arrive.
Deputies say that when Cheladyn arrived, he and the woman sat in his red Hyundai Sonata in front of her home. Cheladyn asked the woman if she wanted to smoke marijuana and she refused, and as she turned to get out of the car, Cheladyn put a clear plastic bag over her head and tried to keep her in the car, deputies said.
The woman fought back and was able to escape the moving vehicle, deputies said.
Cheladyn was booked into the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center on $25,500 bond.
