Police: 27 pounds of Spice found in car with baby
A Pinellas County couple were arrested this week for having 27 pounds of toxic spice in garbage bags next to a 2-month-old baby in their car, according to a police report.
Tyler Chile, 22, from Pinellas Park and Kayla Broeker, 23, from Kenneth City, were each charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell and child abuse. A Clearwater Police officer said when he pulled the couple over on Dec. 28, Chile had a large amount of currency on his lap. The officer searched the car and found 1,220 packets of spice, which weighed about 27 pounds, sitting next to a 2-month-old child.
Laboratory results made public on Wednesday found a substance in the spice that could cause fatal cyanide poisoning. The report states the “substance is harmful if inhaled, swallowed or there is skin contact.” Chile told police he bought the large amount of spice for $3,500, according to the report.
Chile was arrested on Wednesday and is being held in the Pinellas County jail on a $30,500 bond. Broeker was arrested on Thursday and faces additional charges of possession of drugs without a prescription and neglect of a child. Deputies said during Broeker’s arrest they found two small children playing near an open safe containing 50mg trazadone hydrochloride pills. Broeker is being held in the Pinellas County jail on a $35,250 bond.
