St. Pete Police: Two children found living in ‘deplorable’ conditions
ST. PETERSBURG —
A 22-year-old St. Petersburg woman faces child abuse charges after police found two children living in “deplorable” conditions in her apartment Friday.
- Chyanne Davis, 22, charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse
- Police responded after a neighbor reported hearing a child crying in the apartment
- One child found naked, covered in feces, urine, and insects
Officials say officers and a Child Protection investigator responded to the scene after a neighbor reported hearing a child crying inside the apartment.
Officers found two children, a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl, unattended in the apartment. They described the apartment’s condition as ‘deplorable,’ full of rotting garbage, soiled diapers, roaches and flies.
Officers found the two year old in a playpen in the living room, naked and covered in feces. The four year old was locked in a room with walls covered in feces and no bedding, himself covered in feces, urine, and insects.
Davis was sleeping in another room. Investigators believe she left the children unattended each day while she worked at night at a fast food restaurant.
Davis was charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse. The children were transported to All Children’s Hospital for assessment and treatment.
